Russia 1996
In response to an official invitation from the Russian Navy in 1996, Shabab Oman participated in the 300th anniversary celebration of the formation of the Imperial Russian Fleet. She set sail from Said bin Sultan Naval Base on 5th May 1996 and passed through several ports before finally arriving at St. Petersburg in Russia. Together with other ships, Shabab Oman participated in the Cutty Sark Race for Tall Ships. She was awarded the Cutty Sark Trophy for Her commitment to the race’s regulations. 22000 people visited the ship, not to mention VIP visitors such as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Finally, after this long journey, the ship retuned to the Sultanate.
