Shabab Oman II in Lines

In continuation of the noble mission carried by the sails of Shabab Oman—to strengthen bonds of friendship and promote peace among nations worldwide—and following a distinguished journey rich with achievements recorded in maritime history, the ship “Shabab Oman II”was launched to carry this legacy forward and convey the Sultanate’s noble message to countries across the globe. Constructed by Damen Shipyards in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the ship was officially launched and named “Shabab Oman II”on May 8, 2014. On September 12 of the same year, the Royal Navy of Oman formally received the vessel, which then embarked on its maiden long-distance voyage to the Sultanate, arriving at Said Bin Sultan Naval Base on November 16, 2014. Shabab Oman II is one of the longest sailing ships of the Clipper class, measuring 85.8 meters in length. It is equipped with three masts, the tallest reaching 51.2 meters. The ship carries 34 sails with a combined area of 2,630 square meters, enabling it to reach sailing speeds of up to 18 knots. The vessel accommodates four VIP guests, 54 crew members, and 36 trainees, and features dedicated living quarters for female trainees.

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Royal Navy of Oman, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, has successfully registered the “Shabab Oman” sailing ship program for peace and sustainable cultural dialogue as a national file in the UNESCO Register of Good Safeguarding Practices for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This achievement took place during the nineteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Paraguay from 6–7 December. It reflects Oman’s continued commitment to showcasing its rich culture to the peoples of the world.

Continuing the legacy of dedication and the successes of its predecessor, "Shabab Oman II" has achieved numerous accomplishments since entering service with the Royal Navy of Oman. The ship has distinguished itself through its various international voyages and active participation in numerous maritime events and festivals, emerging as a shining star among participating vessels, earning a prominent presence and widespread recognition in international maritime forums

Achievements And Awards

Sailing and Adventure Course

Shabab Oman conducted sailing and adventure courses for young people with a normal age limit of 25 for participants. Each course usually lasts for three weeks, except for foreign deployments where courses could last for three months or more. The aim of such courses was to establish team work, develop leadership skills and navigation principles and improve self-confidence whilst learning to live in a maritime environment. Physical fitness was essential to gain acceptance to the course and the trainees also received a training program includes lectures on safety principles, such as the use of ropes and the necessary actions to be taken in bad weather. Mast climbing was carried out under the direct supervision of a crew member either while the vessel was berthed in harbor or during sailing. Shabab Oman conducted many such courses during her service in RNO.
