The ship "Shabab Oman" left on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2008, heading to the French Republic to participate in the "Armada Maritime Festival" in the city of Rouen, in addition to its participation in the long sailing ships race. It participated in the long sailing ships race, which started from the English port of Liverpool and ended in the Dutch port of Den Helder, and the ship won the International Friendship Award for this race.The ship also participated in the Maritime Festival held in the British port of Falmouth, where the ship won the award for the best participating ship in the parade.The ship then participated in a long-distance sailing race from Falmouth to Aveiro, Portugal, and another race from Aveiro to Funchal, Portugal. The races concluded with the ship winning the International Friendship Award for those races. On November 19, 2008, the ship arrived in the Sultanate's waters after traveling 15,000 nautical miles, visiting 23 seaports.
