Japan 1997

On 15th February 1997, Shabab Oman started a journey to the Far East to take part in a large naval display marking the first centennial anniversary of the establishment of Osaka Port, as well as to participate in the Osaka Long Sailing Ships Race. The first stage of the voyage was from Said bin Sultan Naval Base to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. Then, She proceeded to Lokeen Island, to berth in Phuket, Thailand. From there, she crossed the Malacca Strait, passing Singapore before sailing on to Hong Kong. After that, the ship sailed to Okinawa Island, passed through the areas of Naha and Kagoshima, sailing to Osaka where She won Cutty Sark Prize for International Friendship 1997-the second time in a row. She was also awarded the prize of the best ship in the Parade of Sail during the review of the marine fleet. After graciously achievements, she returned home with excellent reputation.
