Europe 2005

On the 27th of April 2005, Shabab Oman sailed from Said bin Sultan Naval Base to Europe, to participate in a number of maritime festivals and races. Throughout the voyage, She together with RNOV Al Muazzar, participated in a fleet review of warships and sailing ships, held at the Port of Portsmouth to commemorate the 200th anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar. She also participated in the naval festival hosted by Waterford. In addition, Shabab Oman participated in a naval festival that took place in the French city of Cherbourg and take a part in the Annual River Festival held in Newcastle. She anchored at the Norwegian city of Fredrikstad to take part in the International Tall Ships’ Race final ceremony for 2005. In this race, She was awarded the Cutty Sark International Friendship Trophy for the fourth time. Moreover, She anchored in the German Port of Bermerhaven for the Festival of Sail and participated in the Seven Seas Festival which took place in the Dutch Port of Ijmuiden. Participation in the Torbay-Santander Race marked the end of Shabab Oman’s voyage to Europe where She sailed through the Bay of Biscay to the Spanish city of Santander to participate in the Sea Festival 2005. Stopped at a number of international ports, the Ship returned safe on 26th October 2005 to Said bin Sultan Naval Base in a voyage lasted for six months and covered more than 15500 nautical miles.
